"HOME FREE" is the title penciled beside preliminary sketches of this painting that depicts a Lancaster returning from a night raid as the sun rises. The aircraft is reflected on a rain-soaked runway. When we received the painting, a cardboard cut-out of a control tower was pinned onto the unfinished area.
