Canada's Bomber Command Virtual Memorial
Memorials
Tips for Using the Virtual Memorial
- Don't try to fill in all the search boxes. In fact, it's much easier if you don't.
- It's best to fill in just one of the search boxes, preferably the last name if you know it.
- If you enter "B" in the last name box, for example, you will see all the casualties whose last names begins with "B". This is useful if you're not certain how to spell the last name.
- If you enter "Smith" in the last name box, for example, you will see all the casualties whose last name is "Smith."
- To see all the casualties for a squadron, for example No. 405 Squadron, enter "#405 squadron" in the squadron search box.
- To see all the casualties for an operational training unit, for example No. 22 OTU, enter "#22 operational training unit" in the squadron search box.
- To see all the casualties for a heavy conversion unit, for example No. 1653 HCU, enter "#1653 heavy conversion unit" in the squadron search box.
- To see all the casualties for a particular date, for example January 11, 1943, enter "1943-01-11" in the date search box. Remember many losses occurred on night raids. If you can't find what you're looking for using a particular date, you may wish to try the dates immediately prior to or immediately following.
- To see all the casualties for a particular squadron on a particular date, for example No. 405 Squadron on April 27, 1944, enter "#405 squadron" in the squadron search box and "1944-04-27" in the date search box.
"The massive achievements of Bomber Command will long be remembered
as an example of duty nobly done."
